Last night I really did not want to go for my walk. I've been feeling off all week - had a rough night at physio Tuesday and since then had a sore rib that radiated to my back and I just didn't WANT to go...plus it was cold out. Normally when I go for a walk, I aim for 63 minutes - that's how many minutes it takes me to earn 6 activity points (62 minutes gets me 5... what's one more minute, right?!). I always feel that if I DO go out, I have to go for the full shot or it's not worth going. Where in the world did that idea come from I wonder? Last night I talked myself into going for 30 minutes. Fifteen minutes out and 15 back. That's all I was going to force myself to do. I walked out the door and was promptly splattered with HUGE raindrops (and I'd chosen to wear my fleece over my rain jacket because it was cold out). Nope, I'm gonna do it... 30 minutes, that's all I have to suffer through - I can have a hot shower when I get home and it'll all be good. About 15 minutes into the walk my rib "popped" and the pain that had been with me since Tuesday was almost gone! So I kept walking. I ended up getting my 6 activity points. Really for me, the toughest part is getting my sneakers on and walking out the door - once I'm out, I sometimes feel like I could go forever! When I got home I realized that my speed is getting up there - I clocked the route to my office from home and it's only 8.7 kms... one of these days I'm going to walk to work, I promise you that (I'll have to leave at 5am so I can pop over to the gym next door to shower before work though!). I figure I could walk to work in about 90 minutes or so... some day.
So... can you go for "half" of your typical workout routine and still feel like you've done something worthwhile? Do you find that once you get going, you end up completing the whole thing in the end?
Again with the mind games we play!
Slimmer this Summer update:
I lost 1.3 pounds this week to give me a grand total of 110.1
I ate all 49 weekly points again this week
I ate 10 points worth of pure protein (chicken, fish, eggs) each day (except yesterday, I was 1 point short)
I worked out 5/7 days
Sadly, due to my rib pain (never did figure out what it was), I only ran once. I will repeat this "week" of my running schedule next week
Lots and lots of water
I think this week I might do 3-4 days of no sugary treats.... I'm not doing a full week as we're going away to PEI this weekend and I want to have SOMETHING (in moderation)....
"See" you all next week!

Woot! Congratulations on another great week! You are right - getting the shoes on and getting out the door is really the hardest part. Once I do, I'm inevitably glad that I did!
Thanks Shondi! I know - why can't we remember this BEFORE we put our sneakers on?? If only that good feeling came just from putting on my yoga pants ;-) Still waiting for that love of exercise to come through for me...
Just when I think I'm too tired to do any exercise and I MAKE myself do it - it becomes easy. I know I am working for the rewarding feeling at the end or I gain the bounce back in my step and push through because it feels good to exercise. I wish I didn't avoid it in the first place. It's SO worth it!!!!
Congratulations. You are so right. Our "all or nothing", perfectionist, lame attitude is our worst enemy. "We have met the enemy and it is us!" We will win this because we recognize this for what it is - our old self just not wanting to give up.
So true Miss April and Myra!
congrats on 110lbs~! inspiring!
hope the rib pain isn't serious, i used to get a lot of pain between them on my left side when i ran track. something to do with the tissue between the ribs bruising because i wasn't stretching properly
Me too! I have to make myself get up and go, yet when I'm finished I always wonder why I was putting up such a fuss!
I wish it was cold enough here to wear a fleece while walking. If I could strip to the skivvies and bike in the 100+ degree heat, I would. I restrain myself though, on account of the neighbors. ha ha ha
Ooh, stretching could totally be my problem...although this pain started before my run on Tues night...after my physio appointment... Angela Pea - you crack me up! Temps here yesterday were about 50 degrees maybe...that's cold for this time of year for sure!
It is always the getting started part that is the hardest... for everything! 5 out of 7 days ain't bad though and you lost so there is still good:-)
I sometimes make myself go out and do at least half a walk, and I do feel better, but I still know I didn't do the whole thing. It's that mental hump thing. That excuse of a road block. I'm so there! And if you figure out how to eliminate it, please let us know! :) Great job sticking to it, though.
I'll keep you posted if I figure out how to get over that hump!
I love your blog and your style! So cute. Congrats on the weight loss this week and getting out there and just doing it. I have been horrible (as in, none) with exercise this week and this was just the inspiration I was looking for. I will have to share this post in my next entry for sure! Keep it up.
Thanks Kalien!! Glad you like my blog. I'll head over and check out yours now :-)
I agree the hardest part is just getting the sneakers on! It's too hot here to go out, so I've started using my treadmill again. Well done on the loss this week, keep it up:-)
I know what you mean by the hardest part is talking ourselves INTO just doing it! Once you're there, it's fine. So glad your rib feels better! Isn't it great how you notice that your speed is getting better? I'm noticing that too and loving it!
I've found that when I tell myself I'll just do half... I usually end up deciding its not so bad and finishing the workout. There have been occasions when I just did half though.
Looks like you did well on all of your goals!
Getting my sneakers on and getting out the door is definitely the hardest part. Once I start working out I figure I might as well finish it off strong. I feel like the first 15 minutes of the workout is the most difficult so once I get through that I'm on cruise control.
Congrats on your progress. Keep up the good work.
Hang in there! You're right that getting started is often the hardest part.
good progress, wow you've come a long way!!
Wow! Great week! Great loss!
I have to say, I totally agree with you about the motivation thing. I have such a hard time getting motivated to do any form of exercise and then once I am doing it, I feel great and could go longer than I originally planned. Although, my motivation is always lacking.
Congrats on 110 pounds lost!! That is so amazing!! Such an inspiration. :)
I know the toughest part for me is to get started... But, once I pop in a workout video, or make it down to the gym for a "short walk/run/whatever", I like to keep going. I see the calorie burn on my HRM, and see how far I can get it to go...
Congrats with this week and best of luck with next week!!
Congrats on the loss --weekly and total! And yes, getting OUT the door is always the hardest part. Once momentum kicks in, keeping it up is fine. In fact, walking MORE than one's allotted time is easier..as long as the first step is taken. :D
Happy new week!
Excellent plans, excellent eats and excellent workouts. Keep up the great work. Enjoy your week and your trip away.
Take care and God Bless!!
A nice weight loss for you! When I am really busy, I can do a partial WO and be okay with it. It is hard sometimes to get it all in! Very thoughtful post.
