I fought the food and the food won

Dad, Mom and I in Cavendish, Prince Edward Island
I had a great Canada Day long weekend with my family in PEI this weekend.  I did realize though that I really need to concentrate more on making these social situations more about the company than the food.

Nobody forced me to eat badly this weekend.  There were healthy options available thanks to my wonderful cousin Karen.  I chose to eat the wrong foods.  I ate cookies, pie, potato salad, hamburger, sausage, ice cream and the list goes on.  Each of these things on their own I realize are not all bad (ok, maybe the sausage is...but it was good!), but in one three-day weekend, it was a bit overboard.  I did not go to WW on Saturday as I had planned to (had mapped out the location of the nearest one in PEI and everything)... I did not exercise.  I am disappointed in myself.  I've really only done this one other time in recent memory and that was when I went to Bangor in May - but at least then I was on my feet walking all the time.
Thankfully I am able to hit the reset button and tomorrow is a new day.  I am also thankful that tomorrow is another day off for me and that I can head out to the grocery store and stock my fridge with healthy options and take some time to plan meals for the next five days.  Hopefully I have not done too much damage weight-wise, but if I do show a gain on the scale on Saturday, I've nobody to blame but myself.  I was a willing participant in this fight with the food...unfortunately the food won.

There will be no Slimmer this Summer update as I'm afraid this post says it all.  Stay tuned until next weekend when I will have more challenge news...hopefully good news!

This has been a very hard weekend for a lot of us. I know we can all pick it up and start over tomorrow. We have to do this for ourselves. We can't stop while we are ahead.

Let's do it this week! We CAN and WILL!

Don't you just love that reset button? I did the same thing, chose wrong over right. Fruits and veggies are here, I just didn't choose them. *sigh* Next week will be better, it just HAS to! Let's do this and both have an awesome update next week!

NOW begins a new day - they can start at any time. I don't know about you, but saying I will start again tomorrow means I can eat like I want the rest of the day without accountability. A day can start right now. In OA they say to just do the next right thing. Hope you get things back in control and next week brings good news at the scale. These family gatherings are such a challenge. I have a cookout today and a big meal for our Garden Tour on Wednesday evening; these things do present the need to make wise choices but I gotta tell ya that jello pretzel salad is going to be hard to pass up!! I'll have to let you know how I did. The baked spaghetti will be hard to look at and not eat as well. My plan is to just eat before I go. Have a great week!!

Thanks Ladies! Downsizers - the only reason I said tomorrow was because it was almost 11pm and I was going to bed...no more right decisions to make except sleep :) Today is my new day and I'm heading to the kitchen to have my oatmeal with peanut butter and apple in it to kick off my day. Have a great 4th of July everyone!

Live today like it's the most important day of your life. Treat yourself good - you are worth it. Ohh... the potato salad gets me every time. Here's to a great week!

For some reason it seems not many of us had had good results! I lost a little over a pound and my husband didn't lose anything! Looking at most people's post we are all in the same boat! keep up the good work and the results will come! Nicole @colieskitchen.com

It's so hard to celebrate without indulging in all the good food. I think the trick is to enjoy every minute of the celebration and every single bite, forgive yourself and then hit the reset button and move on. Every meal is a fresh start. Rock on!

This past weekend was hard (last several weeks, actually) so I started over today, as well. This weekend, our granddaughter turns 1 and we have her birthday party and a friend's husband's party later on Sat. Making potato salad for it! I will need to be very careful this weekend! But I will not give up and I am glad to see that you won't either!

My week was a bummer too! But this week has been pretty good so far. Remember to keep focused on the goal.

Something I have found helpful is to bring along some things that I really like when at family get a-ways like you described. That way, whether or not there is someone like your Karen, I can have a few items that are within my plan. Planning, for me, is everything. Anyway: back on the horse. Here is to a better eating week. Stay with us. One week off track does not make for quitting!
